Attorney Profile
The law firm is a solo practice by Nancy J. Balles, with an office in downtown Walnut Creek. The scope of the practice is employment and labor law matters. This includes wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination (gender, age, religion, disability, national origin, race), wage and overtime issues, employment contracts, negotiation of severance packages, public sector employee issues, and disability and workers' compensation issues. The firm counsels clients as to their rights and options and provides advocacy for them, including representation in mediations, arbitrations, and litigation. The clients of the firm are primarily individuals. But the firm does have some clients who are small businesses which need advice in handling personnel matters. In addition, Ms. Balles provides services as a mediator for private parties and for the Contra Costa Superior Court's alternative dispute resolution program, 'EASE.' The firm limits its practice to cases which arise in California and which could be litigated in California courts (state or federal). The firm takes on as clients only those who currently reside in California and who intend to remain California residents during the course of the representation. Nancy Balles is active in a variety of professional organizations: the Employment/Labor Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association; the CA Employment Lawyers Association (CELA); the National Employment Attorneys Association (NELA); and the Contra Costa chapter of the American Inns of Court. She has taught employment law in the paralegal program at Cal State University, Hayward, and has been a speaker at numerous programs on employment law.
Nancy Balles is committed to providing quality legal representation. A potential client who calls the office will be interviewed by her paralegal, at no charge. Nancy will then review the information to determine if she can help the person. If the answer is yes, an appointment for an in-person consultation can be set up. The consultation will be charged at her hourly rate.
